What could be as wonderful as a month in California with my sisters? Not much. However, when I combined my west coast vacation with the online course Sketchbook Revival 2023, magic did happen. Usually coffee is what gets me out of bed in the morning, particularly when I’m on vacation, but my sketchbook was in my hands before my cup every day.
Kudos to Karen Abend, the organizer. The format of the course builds anticipation right into the process. I wake up wondering who the teacher is, what media are we using, how far out of my comfort zone am I going to be? Exciting. And the kicker is, I’m not in my studio so I need to improvise. Nice. It’s like doing a yoga stretch class for your creativity.
Best of all, Sketchbook Revival has actually gone a long way toward helping me cultivate a daily drawing practice. For me, this is a healthy change, and I am grateful. Totally recommended. I’m seeing a group of artist friends for the weekend soon, and now I’ve got the sketchbook to show everybody. Can’t wait.
